Speaker Raja Pervez Ashraf has refused to deviate from his decision on the issue of the restoration of National Assembly (NA) members of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
According to sources in the National Assembly, the decision of the PTI members whose resignations have been accepted is final, and none of the 35 members will be allowed to participate in the National Assembly session tomorrow.
Officials of the National Assembly said that if the resigned PTI lawmakers try to come to the House, action will be taken according to the law. The Lahore High Court (LHC) or the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has not reinstated any PTI lawmaker. The ECP has only suspended its notification of the by-elections.
According to National Assembly sources, PTI is interpreting the court decision according to its own desires.
On February 24, 2023, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) suspended the notification of de-notification of 32 National Assembly members of the PTI from Punjab in the context of the decision of the Lahore High Court.
The Election Commission of Pakistan also suspended the election schedule for the by-elections in 27 constituencies in Punjab.
The commission says that election activities will continue for three seats in the National Assembly of Islamabad, by-elections for three seats in the National Assembly of Islamabad will be held on March 16, and the decision of the Lahore High Court is not applicable to the said constituencies of Islamabad.
According to the Election Commission, the notification to de-notify 27 members on general seats and five women on specific seats from Punjab has been suspended.
