The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has summoned the interior and human rights secretaries in the cases against harassment and enforced disappearances of Baloch students, saying that the court will not disappoint the victims.
Earlier in April, the IHC, while hearing the cases, had directed the government to form a commission to investigate the racial profiling and disappearances of Baloch students in the country. IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah had said that the courts cannot turn a blind eye to the human rights violations in Pakistan.
Hearing the cases today, IHC chief justice Athar Minallah said that the court will not disappoint any Baloch student.
Lawyer Iman Mazari appeared before the court on behalf of the Baloch students while Deputy Attorney General Khawaja Imtiaz represented the federal government.
The court asked the deputy attorney general that what the commission has done so far in this case. The DAG told the court that it would take time to inquire, investigate and then submit a comprehensive report.
The court questioned the DAG as to whether the political parties do not want to solve the problems of the Baloch students.
The IHC chief justice remarked that the Baloch students have raised very important and constitutional questions.
Later, the court adjourned the case till July 5.
