Pakistan has confirmed that its invitation to the “High-level Dialogue on Global Development” held in China on June 24 was blocked by a member of BRICS, a bloc comprising the emerging national economies of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
Today, the Foreign Office spokesperson said that a number of developing and emerging economies were invited to the dialogue and as the host country, China was engaged with Pakistan prior to the BRICS meetings, where decisions are made after consultations with all BRICS members including invitations to non-members.
"Regrettably, one member blocked Pakistan from participating," he said.
"We hope that the organisation's future engagement will be based on principles of inclusivity, with the overall interests of the developing world in mind, and free of narrow geopolitical considerations."
He added that Pakistan and China are all-weather strategic partners and their iron brotherhood remains rock solid.
“We appreciate China’s role in promoting the interests of the developing countries. Together with China, Pakistan has been a strong voice for global peace, shared prosperity and inclusive development. Pakistan is the current chair of G77+China and also part of the group of friends of the Global Development Initiative (GDI).”
