Minister for Information Fawad Chaudhry has said that the government will now treat the banned Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) as a militant organisation and see to it that it meets the fate as that of other terrorist organisations.
While addressing a press conference in Islamabad, the minister said that a meeting led by Prime Minister Imran Khan was held yesterday. It was attended by the representative of intelligence and other relevant institutions.
He said that it was decided in the meeting that the TLP would not be treated as a political party at any cost and the government would now treat it as a militant group. He added that all other institutions including the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) should see the group in the name manner.
Further, the minister said that the TLP is supported by Indian accounts on social media and its demands were 'unacceptable', adding that no one can be allowed to challenge the writ of the state.
Fawad Chaudhry said that the state has so far not resorted to use of force against the TLP. He also said that those spreading 'fake news' against the banned outfit should stop their propaganda.
The minister noted that six police personnel have been martyred at the hands of TLP while more than 700 others received injuries.
