Five Children Among 8 Perish After Rocket Explodes In Kandhkot

A rocket detonated in a home in Sindh's Kandhkot area on Wednesday, killing at least eight people, five of whom were children, and injuring another five.

The incident took place in the Ghora Ghat area in the Kutcha (riverine) area of Kandhkot, Kandhkhot Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rohail Khoso said.

As per the police's preliminary investigation, the children found the rocket lying unattended in an agricultural field and took it home thinking it was a toy. At home, ast they tinkered with it, the ordnance detonated.

The law enforcement services said that as soon as the occurrence was reported, rescue workers rushed to the site and shifted the deceased and injured to the hospital. They also stated that an inquiry into the incident has been launched.

After the incident was reported, Sindh Caretaker Chief Minister Maqbool Baqar took notice and sought an in-depth report from Sindh Police Inspector-General (IG) Dr. Riffat Mukhtar.

How did a rocket, which is not a commonly available nor accessible ordnance, find its way to the village, the interim CM asked.

"Were any weapons being smuggled into the Kutcha areas? Do the village's residents include dacoits' facilitators? It is necessary to provide a thorough report,” he said.
