Seven members of a family, including an army aviation officer, lost their lives after their vehicle fell into Indus River in Kharmang area of Gilgit-Baltistan on Wednesday.
According to a report published by Express Tribune, the Skardu deputy commissioner said that the incident took place at Bongpadi on the Kargil Road in Kharmang area of Skardu, adding that army aviation officer Captain Hassan and his wife Dr Samina are among those who drowned in the river.
The family was travelling from Olding to Skardu when driver of the van lost control and the van fell in the river.
A rescue team was dispatched immediately by the civil administration to search the bodies. They pulled out the bodies of three people from the river, while the search is underway for four others, including the army officer and his wife.
Locals also made it to the site to help carrying out the rescue activities.
Those who drowned include Sadiq Hussain, Rohullah, Batool, Yazdan and two-year-old Sania.
The report said that Captain Hassan got married only a week ago and was a resident of Skardu. Dr Samina was doing her specialisation in ENT (ear, nose, and throat) as the Gilgit-Baltistan region lacks ENT specialists.
