Singer-activist Salman Ahmad, who insulted Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa on social media a few days ago in a now deleted tweet, has been appointed as Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairperson Imran Khan’s focal person on culture.
Sharing the new on his Twitter handle, Salman, who is the founding member of Junoon, a sufi rock band, said that he is deeply inspired and motivated on receiving this important responsibility.
The singer has been a staunch supporter of the PTI.
Earlier, in a tweet, he had called the Supreme Court's verdict that set aside then National Assembly Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri’s ruling to dismiss the no-trust motion against Imran Khan a “sham, a mockery of justice and a sinister plot to embolden convicted criminals to begin their loot and plunder.”
Many PTI supporters believe that the Pakistan Army had orchestrated former prime minister Imran Khan's removal behind the scenes. However, the army had repeatedly announced its intent to remain neutral in the political showdown between the PTI and Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM).
The singer had also criticised Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa by sharing a suggestive meme on Twitter, implying that the army chief’s stance of being neutral in politics is not justified. “One bad apple can poison the entire barrel,” he had said.
However, the tweet was later deleted.
