Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman and former prime minister Imran Khan's sister Uzma Khanum has purchased a 5261-kanal land at a throwaway price in Nawan Kot area of Layyah, Samaa TV reported on Monday.
According to the report, Uzma and her husband, Ahad Majeed, purchased the land for Rs131.5 million in September, 2021 while the market value of the land is around Rs700 million.
The report said that the purchase was made during the PTI-led government in Punjab last year and the transfer of ownership rights of the land was made after a delay of six months in March this year. It said that the details of previous and existing possessors of the land is still not available in the land records.
Samaa TV added that Uzma purchased the land after the announcement of Asian Development Bank (ADB)-supported Greater Thal Canal (Phase-II) project in Layyah and nearby cities, adding that the value of the land is likely to increase manifold after the completion of the project.
The Greater Thal Canal project intends to irrigate millions of acres of land in Thal, Bhakkar, Layyah and Khushab. More than Rs10 billion has been spent on the project so far.
Earlier in 2018, the Supreme Court had ordered Imran's another sister, Aleema Khanum, to pay Rs29.4 million in taxes and fines. The top court, while hearing a case against 44 politically exposed individuals or their benamidars who possess properties in the United Arab Emirates, had maintained that failure on Aleema's part to comply with the court orders will result in confiscation of her properties.
The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) had told the court that a fine and tax worth Rs29.4 million had been placed on Aleema, who had been identified as benamidar of a property.
