Former Chief Justice of Pakistan Saqib Nisar on Saturday confirmed that his son, Najam Saqib, is indeed a part of an audio leak that surfaced today.
In the clip 'leaked' today, Najam could be heard discussing the distribution of tickets for Punjab elections, scheduled for May 14.
The audio has two separate purported conversations between him and Abuzar Chadhar — PTI candidate from the PP-137 constituency — and another person whose identity remains unknown so far.
The three individuals are engaged in a discussion about the provincial assembly tickets issued by the PTI.
The revelation was made by Geo News anchorperson Shahzad Iqbal, who elaborated on his conversation with the former CJ in this regard.
According to Iqbal, Nisar confirmed that the voice was indeed his son's but that it had been 'distorted', and went on to add that those behind the recording of the audio were the 'worst hypocrites'.
The anchorperson said that when it was highlighted to Nisar that his son was talking about his 'immense work' in awarding the tickets, the former CJ did not deny it.
According to Iqbal, Nisar said that he, as a private individual, could recommend [someone's candidature].
"Saqib Nisar asked the inquirer if doing so harmed them or anyone else," the anchorperson maintained.
"He vehemently denied taking any money from anyone for his recommendation, and cursed those who do so," he added.
A few days ago, another audio allegedly featuring former CJ and PTI lawyer Khawaja Tariq Rahim surfaced online.
In the clip that lasts for over a minute, both are purportedly heard discussing suo motu and contempt of court cases.
It came to light when the judiciary and the ruling coalition engaged in an intense verbal battle over the impending elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The PDM government has shown great reluctance for early provincial elections because the apex court is adamant at conducting them on May 14. It advocates for simultaneous elections throughout Pakistan.
