United Kingdom Monarch Queen Elizabeth said on Monday that she was "deeply saddened" over flood-related fatalities in Pakistan.
“I am deeply saddened to hear of the tragic loss of life and destruction caused by the floods across Pakistan. My thoughts are with all those who have been affected, as well as those working in difficult circumstances to support the recovery efforts. The United Kingdom stands in solidarity with Pakistan as you recover from these terrible events,” she said in a message to President Arif Alvi.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif visited Charsadda and Nowshera on Monday and met the flood-affected families. He announced Rs1 million for the families of every deceased and Rs25,000 for every flood-affected family.
He said that rains have wreaked havoc in areas including Kalam, Swat and Dir, adding that hundreds of thousands of houses have been destroyed due to floods. According to reports, the overall death toll from floods across the country has reached 1,033 and around 1,527 people have been injured in flood-related incidents. Moreover, 149 bridges, over 3,451 kilometres of roads, 170 shops, and 949,858 houses have been damaged across the country.
