Court Decision To Free Convicted Rapist Stirs Online Backlash
Peshawar High Court has freed a man convicted of assaulting a deaf and vocally impaired woman after he 'agreed' to marry her, inviting stern online backlash.

Daulat Khan, 23, was awarded a life sentence by an additional district & sessions judge in May for the 2020 rape of a 36-year-old woman in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's Swat district.

Besides the aforesaid sentence, he was also fined Rs0.1 million for committing the heinous crime, CNN said.

On Monday (Dec 26), the Mingora bench of PHC acquitted Khan after the two legally married in light of an 'out-of-court' jirga (tribal court) settlement.

The development has enraged many social media users, who called out the basis of the aforesaid verdict.
