A video of a man mercilessly beating a female doctor at a police station in Bahawalpur went viral on social media, after which the SHO at whose office the incident took place has been suspended.
In the video, a man, identified as Adeel, can be seen hitting the lady doctor as she fell to the ground after being struck several times.
In the later part of the video, a police official, coming from behind, slaps the man on his neck and other people try to deescalate the situation while the lady doctor tries to fight back.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Deputy Secretary General Attaullah Tarar said that he is personally in touch with the lady doctor.
“SHO has been suspended because incident occurred in his office. Accused was arrested but is on bail. We have moved another application against him. Justice being ensured. Taking daily updates on action,” he said in a tweet.
The police said that the lady doctor and her husband had a dispute for which they were asked to come to the police station. However, the woman's husband did not come and sent his cousin Adeel instead, the police added.
They said that when an argument broke out between the parties, Adeel assaulted the lady doctor, adding that the man was immediately arrested and sent to prison. “Further investigation is underway.”
