GILGIT: On the demand of Pakistani foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the Chinese Government has agreed to keep the China-Pakistan border at the Khunjerab Pass open for trade throughout the year. Provincial president of Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Gilgit-Baltistan, and leader of the opposition in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) Assembly, Amjad Hussain Advocate expressed his gratitude to Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari for fulfilling the long-standing demand of the people of Gilgit-Baltistan.
According to a press release issued by Sadia Danish, Member GB Assembly and spokesperson PPP GB, due to the efforts of PPP chairman and foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, trade has formally recommenced on the Khunjerab border. In this regard, China has also removed restrictions imposed on various products exported from Pakistan, and has also opened trade doors for exports from all over Pakistan, which will benefit all Pakistani traders.
For the past four years, Pakistan-China border trade was closed due to which traders were suffering from economic difficulties and there were negative effects on the economy. But now, with the efforts of foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, new potential for employment, growth and prosperity has opened up, and locals look forward to resuming bilateral trade between the neighbours who are also allies.
Foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari congratulated the people of Gilgit-Baltistan on the resumption of commercial operations on the Khunjerab border, which will now continue around the year, as well as on the removal of export restrictions.
It may be recalled in this regard that, on behalf of the people of Gilgit-Baltistan, PPP GB president Amjad Hussain Advocate paid glowing tributes to PPP chairman and foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, appreciating the young leader's role in ensuring the resumption of Pakistan-China border trade. Amjad Hussain Advocate made these remarks on the floor of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly, wherein a resolution was presented which was approved.
Amjad Hussain Advocate added that the continuation of Pakistan-China trade throughout the year will have positive effects on the overall trade of the country including Gilgit-Baltistan. He further said that Pakistan's young foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has not only highlighted the positive image of Pakistan through successful diplomacy, but has also worked to improve the volume of trade between Pakistan and different countries around the world.
