Punjab Governor Chaudhary Muhammad Sarwar has criticised his own Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government for having failed to deliver for the masses, adding that he was given the ceremonious role of governor so that he could be sidelined.
Sarwar said that he could have delivered prosperity for the people if he had been given a more authoritative position. He added that the government had failed to fulfil its pre-election promise of reforming the police and the judicial system.
He denounced the current system of governance, saying that it was inefficient and outdated as a result of which it had failed to resolve issues of the public. Sarwar regretted that we as a nation continue to worship personalities rather than building strong institutions which was what caused many of our problems.
When asked by a reporter why he had accepted the position of governor if he thought that it was a ceremonial role, he replied that when you are part of a party you have to accept all its decisions.
He lauded the former Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N) government for having launched the overseas Punjab Commission which he said was a successful initiative. He also appreciated the Rescue 1122 service, launched when Pervaiz Elahi was the Punjab chief minister, for its 'excellent system'.
