Birds are a ubiquitous part of our natural world, found in plains, forests, and along the shoreline, adding to the beauty of our surroundings.
However, it is disheartening to note that in Balochistan, birds are being mercilessly hunted. Every day, thousands of these beautiful creatures, known for their melodious voices, fall prey to hunters. While bird hunting occurs throughout Balochistan, there are specific regions where it is more prevalent, with Turbat being among the worst affected.
The practice of hunting birds in Turbat is not just a threat to the city's ecosystem; it is also detrimental to the broader environment. Birds are integral to the ecosystem, as they control pests, serve as pollinators, and help maintain ecological balance on islands.
Sadly, instead of cherishing these creatures, we are annihilating their small and vulnerable generations in Balochistan, often for the sake of momentary enjoyment rather than sustenance.
This senseless act is largely driven by a lack of awareness and consideration for the well-being of our planet. Instead of recognizing the critical role birds play in our ecosystem, many are focused solely on their own existence.
Even though eating birds might have some benefits, the wanton killing of birds is pervasive throughout Balochistan.
People hunt birds not out of necessity but for personal enjoyment. In Turbat, a significant number of individuals engage in bird hunting, only to discard their prey. I once asked a friend why they killed birds, and the response was unsettling. He explained that he had no intention of consuming them; rather, he derived pleasure from the act, sometimes tossing the birds aside and occasionally gifting them to friends.
In Turbat, the Dasht area has gained notoriety for bird hunting due to its status as a migratory route for birds seeking survival. Birds are crucial for preserving our ecosystem and the natural world. They serve as pollinators and aid in the dispersal of seeds, especially for native plants.
Moreover, they help control insect populations, rodents, and other small animals, contributing to the delicate balance of their ecosystems.
For the sake of temporary employment and recreation, we are jeopardizing our ecosystem and nature with our own hands.
Bird hunting leads to a decline in animal populations and constitutes an act of cruelty against animals. This, in turn, affects the advantages that observing birds can offer, such as bringing us closer to nature and improving cardiovascular health.
In a step towards addressing this issue, the authorities in Balochistan have arrested individuals engaged in bird hunting in Turbat.
If such legal actions are consistently enforced, the public may be dissuaded from engaging in this activity. Nevertheless, it is essential that these rules apply uniformly to all citizens of Turbat to safeguard our ecosystem and preserve our natural surroundings
