Malaysian Political Doyen Mahathir In Hospital After Testing Positive For Covid

Former Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad has been admitted to a hospital after testing positive for Covid-19.

The 97-year-old has been admitted to the National Heart Institute for observation for the next few days as advised by medical experts, a statement from his office said   However, the statement did not provide details of  symptoms or condition.

Mahathir had received at least three doses of the Covid-19 vaccine with a final shot in November, 2021. The former prime minister has a history of cardiac ailments. He had an extended hospital stay in late January.

Mahathir has served as prime minister twice — first from 1981 until 2003 and again commencing in 2018. He resigned in 2020 due to infighting. At the time of his resignation, he was the world's oldest serving state leader at the age of 94.
