Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has extended an olive branch to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairperson Imran Khan asking him to set aside their differences and work together in unity to deal with the catastrophic floods.
Speaking to international media on Tuesday, the prime minister said he wanted to ask Imran to sit with him and work together on relief efforts to steer the country out the flood crisis, as per a report by Dawn.
“Let’s put together a united effort, let’s move with unity of thought and action, let’s move in unison,” he said. His statement comes in the midst of rising tensions between the PTI and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) led coalition government.
This is the second olive branch extended by Shehbaz Sharif in August alone. Previously on the eve of the country's Diamond Jubilee, Shehbaz once again offered Imran a chance to sit and talk with him to reach a consensus on the 'charter of democracy'. His move had come a day after President Arif Alvi had offered to broker dialogue between the prime minister and the PTI chief.
Speaking during a televised address to the country, he said, "Today, as Prime Minister of Pakistan, I am once again offering the opposition to discuss the charter”.
