Reported in Express (May 23, 2016) a woman was so occupied with talking on her mobile phone that she did not realize she was on a railway line and a train was about to hit her. A railway official ran to save her. He was able to push her off the track, but the train hit him and he died.

Pharmacists turn out kidney thieves


Jang reports (May 23, 2016) five men sedated a woman and stole her kidney when she came to them to buy medicine. Police have registered a case against the suspects, who are believed to have sold the organ off.

Gun-toting woman stops flyover construction


A gun-toting woman (Phoolan Devi) was arrested for trying to stop construction work on the Teen Talwar flyover in Karachi, Nawa-e-Waqt reports (May 24, 2016). She said the construction was illegal. She alleged that they slapped her and took away her gun.

Fistfight in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly


Reported in Nawa-e-Waqt (May 24, 2016) a fight broke out between two MPAs from the PTI in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assembly. They slapped, punched and abused each other (galiyon, ghoonson aur thapron ki barish).

Film title causes concern


According to Dunya (May 25, 2016) people belonging to the film and music industry have raised concern about the name of the upcoming film Mirasan. Director Shahid Rana says the name was chosen by the producer and not him.

The honest railways minister 


Nawa-e-Waqt reports (May 26, 2016) Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique was traveling on a train from Lahore to Rawalpindi. He found an unattended (la-waris) bag in the compartment. There were Rs 600,000 and some documents in the bag, and also the owner’s visiting card. The minister returned the bag to its owner.

Nargis harassed by drunken fans


According to Express (May 27, 2016) several drunk men watching a play in Lahore’s Shalimar theater broke into actress Nargis’ cabin after threatening her security guards. The theater administration intervened, but the actress yelled at them (khari khari suna deen) for poor security arrangements.

Arrest warrants for Tariq Teddy


A court in Lahore issued arrest warrants for famous comedian Tariq Teddy in an alimony case filed by his wife, Dunya reports (May 27, 2016). The woman says he does not give her an allowance for their children.

Rats in parliament lodges 


Reported in Dunya (May 28, 2016) women parliamentarians raised the issue of the rat infestation in the Parliament Lodges in Islamabad during a meeting of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee for Human Rights. Ms Musarrat Rafique said she was bitten by a rodent and vaccinated for three months. Ms Kiran Haider said rats eat up her dry fruit. Ms Alia Kamran said snakes were also found in the residences for parliamentarians. She said Chinese anti-rodent experts had failed to get control the infestation.

Saad Rafique smells a rat 


Quoted in Nawa-e-Waqt (May 29, 2016) Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique says Imran Khan cannot even kill rats in Peshawar, but threatens to bring down the government. He should focus on his own province rather than trying to topple the federal government.
