Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah has warned the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) of strict action if its supporters staged a demonstration before the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) office in Islamabad on Thursday.
Speaking to journalists alongside Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb on Wednesday, the interior minister said the party will be allowed to stage a demonstration at the nearby F-9 park or Parade Ground, warning that “there will be no permission to protest in [the] Red Zone and anyone who tried to enter [the area] forcibly will be dealt as per law.”
He said demonstrations in the high-security area had been banned since the government feared an attack on the ECP office by PTI miscreants. The party had earlier brought armed individuals during the Azad March, he said. “If they try to do any such thing, they will be met with force,” he added.
Earlier this week, PTI chairman Imran Khan had urged supporters to stage a peaceful demonstration before the ECP’s office in the federal capital on Thursday to demand Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja’s resignation.
