Corruption Accusations: Bushra Bibi To File Defamation Case Against Maryam Nawaz
Bushra Bibi, the wife of former prime minister Imran Khan, has decided to file a criminal complaint for defamation against Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN) Senior Vice President Maryam Nawaz, said Pakistan Tehkreek-e-Insaf (PTI) prominent leader Fawad Chaudhry.

At a press conference in Islamabad, Fawad claimed that Maryam had accused Bushra Bibi of accepting bribes to have official documents signed by the government when the PTI previously held power.

He noted that she had never engaged in political activity and had only ever been observed visiting panahgahs (shelter homes).

Fawad claimed that even though the former first lady is an apolitical individual, Maryam has persisted in making accusations against her.

He said Bushra Bibi has chosen to send Maryam Nawaz a legal notice for making unfounded accusations, adding that the filing of a criminal complaint against the PML-N senior vice president will follow the notice.

The former first lady has repeatedly been accused of accepting payments, including a diamond set, in exchange for utilizing her power during the duration of the Imran Khan-led government by Maryam Nawaz.

The PML-N leader claimed that Bushra Bibi's close friend Farhat Shezadi played a significant role in managing the day-to-day operations of the Punjab government led by Usman Buzdar and also accepted bribes for official transfers and postings of the officials.

Meanwhile, Fawad also criticized Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikander Sultan Raja, saying that he is functioning as a ‘crony’’ of the ruling coalition.

He asserted that although they claim no money for elections, they have paid 320 million for four kanals of land in Sargodha to house the electoral commission.

Fawad said that Senator Ejaz Chaudhary filed a reference against the CEC, but nothing happened. He added that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf is sending a new reference against the chief election commissioner.

The PTI leader alleged that the CEC was complicit in a plot to deny people their right to vote and called for his dismissal.
