Ex-ISI Chief Faiz Hameed’s Brother Under Anti-Corruption Inquiry

Ex-ISI Chief Faiz Hameed’s Brother Under Anti-Corruption Inquiry
LAHORE: The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) has initiated an inquiry against the brother of former Director General (DG) Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) Lt. Gen. (retired) Faiz Hameed, Sardar Najaf Hameed Khan, for out of turn promotion and assets beyond means.

In this regard, regional director ACE Rawalpindi wrote a letter to deputy commissioner (DC) Rawalpindi and DC Chakwal requesting provision of record of land owned by Najaf Hameed Girdawar.

“It is intimated that an enquiry no. 100-E-2023 is being conducted by this establishment against the subject respondent with the allegations that said respondent got out of turn promotion by superseding Girdawars senior to him and during his tenure as Naib Tehsildar, accumulated assets beyond his known sources,” the letter reads.

Regional director ACE Rawalpindi also requested DCs Chakwal and Rawalpindi to provide details of property owned by Najaf Hameed Khan to ACE, so the matter may proceed further in accordance with the law and rules.

Najaf Hameed 'most powerful person in Chakwal' when his brother was DG ISI

Sources privy to the inquiry told TFT that at one time, Najaf Hameed was one of the strongest and most resourceful persons in the Potohar region. Nobody could say no to him, and he could get anything and everything done: especially between June 16, 2019 to November 19, 2021 when his brother was serving as DG ISI.

Sources allege that he expropriated land and built a vast portfolio of properties that he either owned or controlled. Najaf also allegedly took bribes from influential people to get tasks done on their behalf, all the while using his brother's name and powerful position to his benefit.

Najaf was suspended because of misconduct

It is pertinent to mention that as per an order issued by commissioner Rawalpindi on February 13, Najaf Hameed, who was then Naib Tehsildar in Chakwal, was placed under suspension with immediate effect "in public interest, on account of misconduct".

Najaf Hameed was directed to relinquish the charge with immediate effect and report to the office of commissioner Rawalpindi division "without fail".

The officials suspended by the Finance Department included Naib Tehsildar Sardar Najaf Hameed Khan, Girdawar Sarfraz Hussain, Girdawar Khizar Hayat, Girdawar Mukhtar Hussain, Girdawar Muhammad Ali, Patwari Muhammad Safdar, Patwari Mumtaz Hussain, Patwari Abid Abbas, Patwari Asif Muhammad Khan, Patwari Waqar Ali, Patwari Ahmed Nawaz, Patwari Muhammad Ali and Patwari Mushtaq Ahmed.

All these officials were directed to relinquish their charge with immediate effect and report to the commissioner's office, Rawalpindi division, as per the suspension orders.
