SCBAP Supports Legal Proceedings Against Ex-Intelligence Chief Faiz Hameed

The Supreme Court Bar Association of Pakistan (SCBAP) has welcomed the Field General Court Martial (FGCM) and the impeachment of former intelligence chief, Lt. Gen. (retired) Faiz Hameed.

The SCBAP also announced its full support for the proceedings against Faiz Hameed regarding the alleged charges of corruption, misuse of authority, and abuse of power, as stated in the press release issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Tuesday.

A press statement issued by SCBAP's President, Mian Rauf Atta, stated that this is a significant step toward institutional introspection and demonstrates that the concept of "sacred cows" or untouchables has now been put to rest. The SCBAP President emphasized the need for all individuals who have abused their power and misused their authority to be held accountable quickly. "Their actions have not only squandered public funds but have also placed an additional burden on the public exchequer, affecting the very people who sustain these institutions and are already facing dire economic conditions."

"Such individuals have tarnished the institution's reputation and created a wedge between the institution and the common people," the statement read. It added that not only have they violated the relevant provisions of their institution, but they have also overstepped their constitutional mandate.

"Our nation holds its institutions in high regard; however, it is crucial for all institutions to operate within constitutional limits and maintain cordial relations with the public."

The initiation of proceedings against this supposedly untouchable figure, along with others like him, is a positive step toward restoring public confidence in our institutions and will undoubtedly help revalidate their credibility.

The press statement further stated that the SCBAP will continue to support democratic values, constitutionalism, the rule of law, and the supremacy and integrity of both civilian and institutional frameworks.
