Former ISI Chief Faiz Hameed Charged With Multiple Offenses Including Political Involvement

Lt Gen (Retd) Faiz Hameed, former head of Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), has been officially charged with several offenses, including engaging in political activities, misusing authority, and violating the Official Secrets Act.

The Pakistan Army’s media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), stated on Tuesday that these actions have endangered the country’s security and interests. Other charges against him include misusing his authority and government resources, as well as causing harm to individuals.

The charges led to the initiation of a field general court-martial (FGCM) process under the Pakistan Army Act on August 12. The ISPR’s statement said that Hameed has been formally charged with political involvement, breaches of the Official Secrets Act, misuse of power and resources, and causing wrongful damage to individuals.

Earlier this year, in August, Lt Gen (Retd) Hameed was taken into military custody over accusations of power abuse and violations of the Army Act. These charges were based on complaints investigated by the army after orders from the Supreme Court. The military conducted a detailed inquiry into the allegations, which included Hameed's involvement in the Top City housing case.

The court-martial proceedings were initiated following these complaints. The military also found multiple violations of the Pakistan Army Act committed by Hameed after his retirement, including his actions while serving as Peshawar corps commander.

The accusations against Hameed stem from a petition filed by the CEO of a private housing society in the Supreme Court last year. The petition accused Hameed of land grabbing and stealing valuables during a raid at the housing society. In connection with this case, three other retired officers were also arrested after Hameed's detention.
