The husband of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MNA Javeria Zafar has been arrested for attempted murder, after he tried to shoot her.
The lawmaker's husband, Haider Ali Baloch, allegedly tried to shoot his wife in the head, although she had managed to escape and the bullet hit the wall instead.
Baloch appeared before judicial magistrate Malak Aman and has been sent to Adiala jail on a 14 day judicial reprimand.
According to the First Information Report (FIR), which was filed by the Ms Zafar on Wednesday, the violent argument began over her request for a divorce (Khula), although the couple had wed just six months ago. Upon hearing this, Bloch threatened the lawmaker and said he would kill her and her family.
Then, Baloch allegedly reached for his gun from a cupboard, and aimed the gun at the lawmaker's temple. Miraculously, he missed and the bullet hit the wall.
MNA Zafar requested that police take legal action against her husband, and made him responsible for any harm which may befall her or her family. She filed the FIR at the Women's police station in Islamabad.
Sub-Divisional Police Officer ASP Beenish Fatima confirmed that the FIR had been registered and said police were investigating the matter. The case has been registered under Pakistan Penal Code 324 (Attempt to commit qatl-i-amd).
