Saad Rafique stages dharna at Lahore Airport

Reported in Express (January 8, 2015) when Railways Minister Saad Rafique arrived in Lahore with his family after an Umrah, his luggage disappeared. He staged a sit-in (dharna) at the airport until he was assured his bag would be found and returned to him. He said the stolen luggage was worth hundreds of thousands of rupees, and included the gifts he received in Saudi Arabia.

Woman tries to bomb mother-in-law

Dunya reports (January 8, 2015) after a domestic dispute in Nowshera, a woman allegedly tried to blow her mother-in-law up with a bomb. She was injured. The woman has been arrested.

Bomb scare at Lahore’s computer market

Reported in Dunya (January 9, 2015) hundreds of people ran out of Lahore’s famous market Hafeez Center shouting ‘Bomb! Bomb!’. The scare began when someone called traders and told them of the presence of a suicide attack vest and explosives at the plaza. The bomb disposal team searched the premises but found no explosives. Police carried out a search operation in Gulberg and arrested four foreigners, who traders said had threatened to bomb the place.

Maid’s husband poses as ISIS operative for ransom

According to Jang (January 9, 2015) a man who had been threatening to abduct the children of late Punjab governor Salmaan Taseer’s daughter Sanam Taseer, and asking for a Rs 20 million ransom in the name of ISIS, turned out to be her maid’s husband. Police traced the phone calls and arrested the man.

Imran Khan’s wedding scares Javed Hashmi’s wife

Police busts gang of burqa-clad women

Nawa-e-Waqt says (January 10, 2015) police busted a gang of four burqa-wearing women, known as the Guddi Gang, who robbed houses in Lahore. They have seized weapons, stolen cash and expensive cloth from them.

Sheikh Rashid told to leave terror-hit neighborhood

According to Express (January 11, 2015) when Sheikh Rashid arrived at the locality in Rawalpindi where a suicide attack had taken place, the families of the victims and the people of the neighborhood did not let him condole with them and made him leave.

Broke hockey team pulls out of two tours

Reported in Nawa-e-Waqt (January 11, 2015) Pakistan hockey team has withdrawn from a series in China and the Azlan Shah Cup in Malaysia. The hockey federation says they do not have enough money to send the team on these tours.

Fake army captain arrested

Intelligence agencies arrested a fake army captain and seized military uniforms, a CMH card, an army driving license and other documents from him, Jang reports (January 12, 2015). He used to attend events including the recent Ideas 2014 exhibition posing as a captain.

Meera suffering from mental trauma after Imran Khan’s wedding

Quoted in Nai Baat (January 12, 2015) Meera says she is suffering from mental trauma (zehni takleef) after Imran Khan declined her proposal and married someone else. She is trying hard to return to normal life, but it will take time for her wounds to heal.
