Daniyal Aziz regulates traffic


According to Dunya (March 28, 2016) after being stuck in a traffic jam for three hours in Shakargarh, lawmaker Daniyal Aziz got off his car and took on the responsibility of a traffic warden. He directed some drivers and scolded others. The citizens enjoyed (lutf-andoz hue) looking at their elected representative controlling traffic.

Chaos at Imran Khan’s hospital visit 


Reported in Jang (March 29, 2016) Imran Khan visited Lahore’s Jinnah Hospital to meet the survivors of the Gulshan-e-Iqbal Park bomb explosion, but there was so much pushing and shoving (dhakkam pail) that glass panes broke down and he had to leave. He then went to Sheikh Zayd Hospital, which was so crowded that he left without meeting anyone again. He was angry (narazgi ka izhar) and declined to take selfies with people.

Shireen Mazari’s electricity cut off due to non-payment 


According to Nawa-e-Waqt (March 30, 2016) the supply of electricity to PTI leader Shireen Mazari’s house in Islamabad was disconnected because she hadn’t paid her bills since October 2015. She owes Rs 940,728 to the electric company.

Rat race to Peshawar


Dunya reports (March 31, 2016) after reading about the Peshawar city government’s announcement for a reward of Rs 25 for every rat killed by a citizen, two men from Qila Didar Singh left for Peshawar with a sack full of dead rats. They said the trip was recreational, but they would pay for it with the money they get for the rats.

TV channels warned over Qandeel Baloch interviews 


Reported in Express (April 1, 2016) Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority has warned three television channels for lewd (ghair muhazzab) conversations with social media celebrity Qandeel Baloch in their primetime talk shows. The authority said the purpose behind the interviews was cheap rating, and that the TV shows should stay within the norms of decency.

Petrol and bottled water cost the same


Jang reports (April 1, 2016) petrol and clean drinking water are being sold at the same price in Pakistan. After a reduction in oil prices, petrol costs Rs 62.77 a liter. Water bottles cost Rs 60 a liter, and are more expensive that petrol in large hotels and restaurants.

New women constables are overqualified


Reported in Nawa-e-Waqt (April 1, 2016) of the 233 women constables of Punjab police who finished training on March 31, one has an MPhil degree, 18 have Master’s degrees, 100 have Bachelor’s degrees and 78 have completed their FA. The posts are for women who have a matric degree. The statistics show that a large number of highly qualified women are unemployed.

Dolphin Force cops hurt during motorbike stunts on duty


Dunya reports (April 2, 2016) two cops from the new Dolphin Force were injured while doing stunts on their official heavy bikes on duty. The motorcycles collided into each other. Police say they fell down because there was a rock on the road.

Police on their toes on April Fool’s day


Reported in Express (April 2, 2016) Lahore police received 400 prank calls on the April Fool’s Day, including false reports of robberies, gunfire and fights. Policemen were on their toes all day (dorrain lagwaye rakheen).

Russian man wants Chitrali wife 


According to Nawa-e-Waqt (April 3, 2016) police have detained a visitor from Moscow who was in Chitral to get married to a local girl. He has converted to Islam. The Russian citizen was deported from Pakistan in December when he had put up ads announcing a Rs 1 million reward for anyone who would find him a bride. He was arrested for failing to register with the local police station.
