A condolence reference to pay tribute to the Sri Lankan national who was tortured to death by a mob in Sialkot last week was held at the Prime Minister's Office in Islamabad. Prime Minister Imran Khan and federal minsters were present at the event which was held to express solidarity with Priyantha Kumara's heirs and the Sri Lankan nation in light of the tragic incident.
The government also announced a certificate of appreciation for Malik Adnan, a co-worker of Kumara's who attempted to save him from the enraged mob on the fateful day.
Earlier on Sunday, the prime minister acknowledged Adnan's courage and announced a Tamgha-e-Shujaat for him for displaying bravery in the face of violence.
The condolence reference at the prime minister office began with the recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by a documentary highlighting the importance of interfaith harmony.
During his speech at the event, Prime Minister Imran Khan appreciated Adnan's attempt and said that it was encouraging to see how a person risked his own life while trying to save a person. He added that moral power was greater than physical power.
