Former chief justice of Pakistan (CJP) Saqib Nisar has categorically denied any connection with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman and former premier Imran Khan and arrogantly stated, "Am I inferior to Khan in terms of intellect and capabilities that I will opt to do lobbying for him."
While talking to a Geo News program "Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Ke Sath", journalist and anchorperson Adil Shahzeb said that the former chief justice admitted that former ISI chief Lt Gen (retired) Faiz Hameed often sends him greetings and that he is in contact with him.
While responding to a question that there is speculation that he succumbed to the pressure exerted by Lt Gen (retired) Faiz and declared then-prime minister Nawaz Sharif disqualified in the Panama case, the former chief justice responded arrogantly "Is it possible that a 'grade-18 general' can pressurize me"?
Journalist Adil said he asked Saqib Nisar: There are assumptions that you gave a few wrong verdicts during your tenure as the chief justice of Pakistan, to which the ex-CJP responded that he is a human being and not an angel, admitting that his few judgments were wrong, but he didn’t specify which judgments he was referring to.
The former chief justice further said that the authorities concerned can summon me and ask me about which cases I was referring to.
According to Zahid Gashkori, who was also on the panel for the same program, he also talked to the former chief justice on the phone, and he told him that two weeks ago PTI chief Imran Khan contacted him and sought help as he facing multiple cases these days. But Saqib Nisar denied any support or help, the journalist revealed.
Gashkori further said that the ex-CJP advised Khan to stop scandalizing the state institutions and don’t try to weaken them, specifically the judiciary. The former chief justice reiterated that he has no friendship or any sort of connection with Imran Khan. Saqib Nisar also said Khan’s other affairs were not in his knowledge as the chief justice, so in what capacity he could give him the certificates of ‘Sadiq’ and ‘Amin’.
Moreover, journalist Adil Shahzeb said that he is fully convinced that former chief justice Saqib Nisar is preempting an audio leak, adding that rumors are circulating in the federal capital that audio of the ex-CJP is about to be released, which will shock many.
