It was reported by Daily Dunya (29 Aug 2016) that on various prominent streets of Lahore, the police had failed to stop one-wheeling on motorcycles. According to the report, in fact, girls have also joined in this perilous entertainment.

Innings cut short


According to Daily Jang (29 Aug 2016), the Chief Minister of Sindh, Murad Ali Shah, was out on a tour of Karachi when he found a number of young people playing cricket at Teen Talwar, Clifton. He asked them to let him join the game but was caught out on the second ball that he played.

Great Wall of Pakistan?


Leaders of the Jamiat-e-Ulema Islam stated that the United States of America wants to sow seeds of disorder (fasaad ke beej) in Pakistan. Daily Express (29 Aug 2016) reported that the party leaders went on to state that religious people and madrassahs are a defensive wall/barrier that protects the country from harm.

Daily Jang (03 Sep, 2016) reported that two young men were beaten up by locals because they had been teasing girls. The two youths were then handed over to police.

Dry times


Daily Jang (04 Sep 2016) reported that after restrictions were imposed on the sale of alcohol, a dramatic decrease (zabardast kami) was seen in the number of tourists visiting the Indian state of Bihar. No decrease was observed in the numbers of foreign tourists, according to the report, but Indian drinkers (sharabis) were staying away from the sites of immense beauty in the East Indian state.

Imran Khan on accurate reporting


The Chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek e Insaaf (PTI) Imran Khan expressed his disapproval over false reports about him getting married in the media. Daily Jang (29 Aug 2016) quoted him saying that it was wrong to put up photos of him and married women. He went on to say that a fine of Rs. 500,000 was too little for publishing such reports.

Lahore’s Batman and Robin?


Daily Nawa-e-Waqt (31 Aug 2016) reported that two friends in Lahore’s Thokar Niaz Beg stopped two armed men who were in the process of robbing a rickshaw. The two friends stopped their motorcycle and advanced on the armed robbers. One of the robbers fled and the other was disarmed and captured by the two friends.

“Even witches have their limits”


It was reported by Daily Jang (02 Sep 2016) that the Chief Justice of the SIndh High Court, while hearing a petition regarding the PPP leadership’s alleged misappropriation of development funds for Larkana from 2008 onwards, remarked that even a witch (dain) spares seven houses, and Larkana is, after all, the PPP’s own city.

Spies everywhere?


DDaily Jang (04 Sep 2016) quoted the leader of the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) Tahir-ul-Qadri as saying that the Sharif brothers are a security threat to the country. He alleged that the two leaders of the ruling party were looking to generate 16,000 MW of power with Indian help and that more than 300 Indians had been brought in by them to operate their mills.

(Very) Grand Theft Auto


Daily Jang (04 Sep 2016) reported that a patrol vehicle (daala) was stolen from outside the home of a serving DSP of the Police Special Branch. This police official has been removed from his position. Security camera footage shows two unknown thieves pushing the patrol vehicle down the road for some distance, until they were able to start the engine and drive off.
