'Maya' is a melodic hip hop indie ballad that shows two perspectives on hope, longing, and heartbreak through the lyrics while having ambient instrumentation that carries through with a trap beat. An amalgamation of three different languages but a unison message of finding resolve through your own methods, Maya touches upon themes of being haunted by your desire but simultaneously wishing it to existence. It is about the day old tale of losing one thing to achieve another, but reflecting upon it through the lens of acceptance.
Rafae Bokhari is a 20 year old singer/songwriter from Lahore. "I’ve been singing for as long as I can remember but when i started creating and writing music is when I picked up the guitar at 13. What started off as a passion slowly turned into an all consuming reality and now creating for me is like journaling how I feel. I do tend to overthink a lot but everything I create has little to no filter and it can very much be interpreted as my thoughts spilled on paper accompanied by melodies. I started producing a few years ago and fell in love with the process, so all my tracks are self produced mostly."
Most of Rafae's songs are in English but he recently started writing in Urdu. "Maya is the first track where I’ve co-written/performed in it. I believe genres are a little outdated now because for me the narrative comes first and the sound it takes is secondary. So this is my music, from my introspection to your ears.," said Bokhari.
Murtaza Qizilbash is a producer, singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Lahore, Pakistan. "My musical journey started with me singing covers for friends and at small gigs back in 2020. I released my first single with my band Kohraam in December 2020 and have been making music ever since. Music has been something which has kept me going, in good and bad times. It has become my primary way of channeling my emotions, whatever they may be. My most recent single is a collaboration called Maya, with Rafae Bokhari. Maya is very close to my heart because my writing shows how closure isn’t always available and how you have to create your own end to a story, by leaving it open ended for another time. All of my songs are available for streaming on Spotify and on my Youtube channel," said Qizilbash.
