Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir met Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammad bin Salman on Monday. Both statesmen reviewed bilateral relations between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia and discussed ways to enhance them, according to a statement from the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) on Monday. The Saudi state news agency stated that the two leaders discussed "a number of issues of common concern" in addition to bilateral ties.
The Saudi crown prince, who also serves as the prime minister of the Saudi Arabian government, received the Pakistani army chief at his winter camp in the city of Al 'Ula.
The SPA shared pictures of the crown prince's reception for the army chief, which was attended by Saudi Arabia’s Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman, and Saudi National Security Adviser Dr. Musaed bin Muhammad al Aiban.
COAS Gen Asim Munir is on an official visit to Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates (UAE) since 4 January. The army chief is expected to return to Pakistan on 20 January. This is his first official overseas trip since he took charge as the chief of army staff of Pakistan Army.
During the week-long visit, Gen Munir will be meeting the senior leadership of both Saudi Arabia and UAE, discussing matters of mutual interest, military-to-military cooperation and bilateral relations focusing on security dimensions.
