Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah has written a letter to Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa, complaining about the role of the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) in the 2019 drugs possession case against him.
Speaking during a TV programme, the interior minister alleged that former prime minister Imran Khan, former advisor on accountability Shahzad Akbar, and former ANF Director-General Major General Arif Malik were involved in filing the "fake" drugs case against him.
Sanaullah further alleged that Akbar was in possession of the bag containing 15kg of heroin and that he asked the Islamabad police to plant it in his room at Parliament Lodges. "When Islamabad Police refused, Maj Gen Malik got involved in this conspiracy and got benefits in return," he claimed.
The interior minister said that he has filed a written complaint with the army chief as well as complained to him in person, adding that the Pakistan Army has "its own method of investigation".
Earlier, former information minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Fawad Chaudhry admitted that the case against Sanaullah made during the PTI government was a mistake.
He said that he had resisted the registration of the case against Sanaullah in a federal cabinet meeting.
