Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) central party leader Syed Khurshid Ahmed Shah has voiced concerns over his party not being consulted on the impending federal budget for 2024–25.
"The government neither informed us about the budget nor gained our trust. We don't know what the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) is doing in terms of privatization policy, taxes, or development programs," he said.
Shah further stated that the PPP is unaware of any relief measures. He stated that he is unsure whether the budget is being created by the government or enforced by the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
The PPP leader stated that their recommendations should have been incorporated into the government budget at any cost. "People will question us about what we've done. Will we tell them we have no idea?" he added.
Shah said that the PPP would need to assess its political options before deciding how to respond to the budget, which is set to be unveiled on June 12.
On the other hand, reports of a further tax rise on salaried workers were dismissed by State Minister of Finance Ali Pervez Malik, who called them untrue and unjustified.
