British journalist, screenwriter, and producer, Jemima Goldsmith has discontinued her association with the hit Netflix show ‘The Crown’ over a disagreement regarding the portrayal of the late Princess of Wales Diana.
Jemima, a friend of Diana, was asked to give her input regarding the princess’s story, and had agreed to help with the storyline for the fifth season which is slated for release in November next year.
However, reports in the British press claim Jemima is unhappy with how Diana is being depicted in the show, maintaining her story is being narrated without “respect or compassion.”
“It was really important to me that the final years of my friend’s life be portrayed accurately and with compassion, as has not always happened in the past,” Jemima told The Sunday Times.
Jemima was an integral part of Diana’s social circle in her last years, before the late princess of Wales died in a car crash in 1997. She has now requested that her contributions be removed from ‘The Crown’.
Meanwhile, the makers of ‘The Crown’ say that Jemima was contacted to provide background and context for the writers of the drama and “has never been contracted as a writer on the series.”
‘The Crown’ narrates the story of Queen Elizabeth II and has featured stories revolving around the British royal house.
Following Jemima’s disassociation from the show, Prince Harry is also being asked to cut short his £112 million deal with Netflix over the portrayal of his mother, Diana.
