Suspects flee lock-up for robbery in handcuffs

Reported in Dunya (August 27, 2015) two men held in a police lockup in Lahore for robbery fled the Defence Police Station to commit another robbery. The complainant said one of them was still in handcuffs.

Donkeys stolen for meat

Express reports (August 27, 2015) unidentified men stole three donkeys at a village near Lahore, skinned them, and ran away with their meet. The owner found their skulls and carcasses a few hundred meters away.

Pakistan gas balloons alarm India

According to Dunya (August 29, 2015) Indian security officials were alarmed (tarthalli) when six gas balloons from Pakistan fell 10 kilometers inside the Indian territory. They had two pieces of paper with Urdu text attached to them. The text turned out to be the names of the people who flew the balloons.

Letter threatening politician included Rs 1,000 for shroud

Reported in Nawa-e-Waqt (August 29, 2015) an anonymous letter of threat to a woman councilor in Bannu also included Rs 1,000, which it said was for her to buy a shroud (kafan).

Lawyer versus traffic warden

Express reports (August 30, 2015) when a traffic warden in Faisalabad stopped a lawyer for violating a traffic signal,  he became angry (taish main aa kar) snatched his challan book and beat him up, ripping off his uniform. Police have registered a case against the lawyer and his friends.

Moral decline of Indian army

Dunya says (August 30, 2015) Indian army men are suffering from such a moral decline that they gave away sensitive information after indecent Facebook chats. A colonel, a major and a lieutenant have been arrested.

 Pickpocket targets new Peshawar Nazim

When Peshawar’s new district Nazim was celebrating after taking oath, someone hugged him to congratulate him and picked his pocket (jaib pay haath saaf), Express reports (August 31, 2015).  He ran away with (lay urra)  Rs 40,000, an ATM card and an identity card in his wallet.

Protesting train passengers fight with railway police

Reported in Jang (August 31, 2015) when fans in the Pakistan Express train stopped working, the passengers carried out a protest at Multan railway station. The railway police tried to stop them and a scuffle ensued. Several passengers were injured.

Fake Ayesha Mumtaz arrested in Lahore

Nawa-e-Waqt reports (September 1, 2015) A woman posing as Food Department director Ayesha Mumtaz and her three aides were arrested for making fake raids on shops in Lahore, and threatening to seal them for bribes. Police seized Rs 7,500 from them.

Hidden treasure at the house of Raisani’s PA

According to Jang (September 2, 2015) police seized 8 chests full of gold and cash from the house of former Balochistan chief minister Aslam Raisani’s personal assistant. It is not clear where the money came from.
