Untold stories

An explosive new biography “Rekha: The Untold Story” reveals that the now-reclusive Bollywood star was illegitimate. At 13, her mother pulled her out of school and pushed her into showbiz. The reluctant debutante was reviled for being fat and dark but slowly as she shed weight and gained confidence, she began to get coveted roles. Apparently, Rekha was also a victim of the infamous casting couch. Through painful experience, she managed to claw her way up. At the top of her career, she began a long relationship with Amitabh Bachchan, who, despite marrying and fathering children, kept up his liaison with her. While Rekha was vilified, Bachchan remained a god for his huge fan following. Finally, Rekha gave up on Mr B and married Agarwal, a businessman. Tragically, he was bipolar and a few months after their marriage, he committed suicide. Once again, the woman became the “culprit” and that’s when Rekha withdrew from public life.

The last straw

Another famous woman to face personal challenges is Huma Abedin, US Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton’s chief of staff. Of Pakistani-Deccani origin, Huma was born in the US and grew up in Saudi Arabia where her mother still teaches. Huma went to uni at George Washington and began her career as an intern to the then First Lady, Mrs Clinton. Her language skills (Urdu, Arabic, English) and hard work gained her a permanent position on HC’s staff. A few years ago, Huma married a talented Congressman Anthony Weiner with whom she has a son, Jordan Zain. Later, Weiner’s inappropriate behaviour forced him to resign from Congress and lose an initially promising New York mayoral race. Weiner was sexting female strangers and lying about it; his latest sexting episode involved photographs of himself in his underwear with his toddler son sleeping by his side. Apparently, this was the last straw for Huma. A suggestion: Zain Abedin may be a better name for the boy.
