The Balochistan High Court (BHC) has suspended a non-bailable warrant issued by the Quetta court a day back for the detention of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman and former prime minister Imran Khan for two weeks.
It is pertinent to mention that earlier today, a team comprised of officers and personnel of the Quetta police reached Zaman Park with a non-bailable warrant to apprehend Imran Khan.
The plea seeking suspension of the arrest warrant was filed by Iqbal Shah of the Insaf Lawyers Forum (ISF) on behalf of the PTI chief Imran Khan. Balochistan High Court Justice Zaheer-Ud-Din heard the case.
The court was requested to cancel the FIR since, according to the plea, the crime was not committed inside the boundaries of the Bijli Police Station, where the complaint had been filed.
The Balochistan police chief, SP legal, and the station house officer of the Bijli Police Station were all sent summonses along with the suspension of the warrant by Justice Kakar.
The court then adjourned the hearing for two weeks.
Yesterday, in a case brought against him under several provisions of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) and the Prevention of Internet Crimes Act, 2016, a local court in Quetta issued a non-bailable arrest warrant for the PTI leader.
The arrest warrant was issued by the judge, who also instructed the police to take the former prime minister to court.
A first information report (FIR) was filed at a police station in Quetta against Imran Khan for the remarks he expressed about the state institutions during his speech on Sunday.
Abdul Khalil Kakar, the complainant, filed a police report against the PTI leader at the Bijli Road Police Station. The PPC's Sections 153A, 124A, and 505 as well as Section 20 of the PECA were included in the FIR.
The complainant maintained that the PTI chief’s statement was an effort to undermine public peace and order.
In the speech on Sunday, PTI chief Imran Khan severely criticized the “state institutions” after a team of Islamabad police had arrived at his Zaman Park residence to detain him in the Toshakhana case.
