Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar on Monday reiterated his administration's resolve to bring those responsible for the Jaranwala incident to justice as he sought proposals from minorities on addressing issues and problems.
This was discussed as a delegation from the Christian community called on him at the PM House on Monday. Caretaker Minister for Human Rights Khalil George and other relevant authorities were also present during the meeting.
In an official statement issued after the meeting, Kakar was said to have asserted that minorities enjoy equal rights in Pakistan and assured the delegation of complete protection of their rights and security. The Constitution grants equal social, religious and political rights to all citizens without any racial, caste, creed or ethnic discrimination, he said.
The prime minister reiterated that those responsible for the Jaranwala incident would be made an example of so that such incidents do not reoccur in the future.
He asked the representatives of the minority community to submit their proposals on how the government could resolve their issues and problems.
Kakar called upon all the segments of society to play their role in eliminating extremism.
The delegation welcomed the appointment of Khalil George as the Caretaker Human Rights Minister. They also thanked the prime minister for visiting and taking immediate measures after the Jaranwala incident.
The delegation included Ijaz Augustin, a former provincial minister, Asia Ansar, a former MNA, bishops and pastors.
