Shireen Mazari, Yasmin Rashid Arrested

Shireen Mazari, Yasmin Rashid Arrested
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) senior leaders Dr Shireen Mazari and Dr Yasmin Rashid were detained by police in raids conducted in Islamabad and Lahore, indicating that the police onslaught on PTI leaders is not abating.

According to the authorities, Shireen Mazari's residence was searched by the Islamabad police early on Friday. Following a string of arrests of senior PTI leaders, including Imran Khan, Senator Ejaz Chaudhry, Asad Umar, Fawad Chaudhry, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, and Ali Mohammad Khan, she was taken into custody.

Other than Imran Khan, all of these leaders were detained in accordance with Section 3 of the MPO.

Former Punjabi health minister Dr Yasmin Rashid has reportedly also been detained, according to a PTI statement.

PTI leader Andaleeb Abbas said that the former health minister was hiding to escape being apprehended.

"Two days prior, police had detained some of her immediate family members, but her husband was freed due to a decline in his health. She still has her brother-in-law in police custody," she added.

The attack on the residence of the Lahore Corps commander is one of many cases brought against Dr Yasmin Rashid.

Chairman Imran Khan's arrest in the Al-Qadir Trust issue has been deemed "illegal" by the Supreme Court on May 11, and officials have been told to free him "immediately" in a significant legal victory for PTI on Thursday.

The PTI chairman is now allowed to spend the night with his family and close friends after being transferred to the Police Lines Guest House by the Supreme Court.

The Islamabad High Court (IHC), which earlier ruled that Imran Khan's arrest was lawful, has also been ordered by the apex court to hear him by tomorrow.

It is significant to highlight that the court has established a precedent prohibiting arrests on court grounds.

The NAB complaint is one of more than 100 that have been filed against him, and if found guilty, he may be prohibited from holding public office.
