At least 201 people have been killed in connection with the nationwide unrest sweeping Iran, Iran Human Rights (IHR) said on Wednesday.
23 of those killed are children, the NGO said. Figures on Kurdistan casualties over the last three days were still being probed. The IHR warned of an "impending crackdown" in the Iranian province. This would particularly be enforced in provincial capital Sanandaj.
The IHR called on the world to take "immediate action" on this account. "The international community must prevent further killings in Kurdistan by issuing an immediate response," IHR director Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam said.
Protesters have been killed across 18 provinces with most casualties reported in Sistan and Baluchistan, Mazandaran, Gilan, Kurdistan and Western Azerbaijan. A majority of the killings were reported on September 21, 22 and 30. Iran Human Rights further claimed to have received reports of scores of arrests post identification by intelligence agencies. Torture and ill-treatment against protesters has been widely reported with at least two deaths in custody, the IHR said. Families have told Iran Human Rights that their loved ones are under pressure to force televised confessions, the NGO said.
Concluding with a disclaimer, the IHR said many of the reported killings continued to be probed citing security issues and an Internet shutdown. Exact figures on those killed, the NGO said, stood higher.
