Bishop Among Four Injured In Sydney Church Stabbing; Teenager Arrested

A 15-year-old boy has been detained following the stabbing of a bishop and numerous worshipers during a preaching session in Sydney.

The incident occurred Monday evening at Christ The Good Shepherd Church in the Wakeley area.

At least four people were stabbed; however, none of them suffered life-threatening injuries, according to authorities.

The incident sparked turmoil, with hundreds gathering outside the church and battling with police, two of whom were wounded.

People flung stones, bricks, and bottles at vehicles, causing damage, while police sprayed pepper spray, according to Reuters.

According to witnesses, the assembled crowd demanded that the attacker be taken outside.

According to New South Wales Acting Assistant Commissioner Andrew Holland, the 15-year-old suspect is being treated for hand wounds. He said that he had been shifted to a secure area.

The stabbing came only days after six people, including a Pakistani-origin security guard, were killed at a shopping mall in Sydney. A police officer fatally shot the attacker.

There is no indication that the two incidents are associated.
