According to Dunya (December 6, 2015) Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri turned out to be a fan (deewanay niklay) of Arnold Schwarzenegger. He was representing Pakistan at the climate change summit in Paris when the Hollywood actor and former California governor arrived in the hall. Other representatives began to take selfies with him. The Maulana was restless (baychain) and left his seat to struggle (jadd-o-jahad) to get one look (aik jhalak dekhnay kay liye).

Voters run away with polling agents’ lunch


Nawa-e-Waqt says (December 6, 2015) when a van arrived with lunch for PML-N polling agents during the local council elections in Rahimyar Khan, voters and workers outside the polling station attacked the vehicle (toot parray, dhawa bol diya) and ran away with all the boxes of Biryani (lay urray). While they enjoyed the food outside (mazay lootay) the polling agents who hadn’t eaten all day remained hungry.

‘Karachi should be ashamed of voting for MQM’


Quoted in Jang (December 7, 2015) PTI leader Ali Zaidi says the people of Karachi should be ashamed of themselves (sharam aani chahiye) for voting for MQM in the local council elections. He is the president of the Karachi chapter of Tehrik-e-Insaf.

No more shopping in uniform 


Reported in Dunya (December 8, 2015) the Punjab government has decided to ban public servants from shopping in uniforms. The decision came after a survey revealed that uniformed officials are seen to abuse authority and blackmail shopkeepers.

Pakistani boy, Indian girl finally together after Facebook romance 


Nai Baat says (December 8, 2015) a Pakistani boy from Hunza did the impossible (jooay shir lana) by marrying an Indian girl after the two fell in love on Facebook and overcame all barriers (rukawatain aboor). The boy visited India in 2012 to meet her parents, and in 2014 to marry her. The girl has left her job in India and has now settled in Pakistan. She is a granddaughter of Justice Cornelius, the fourth chief justice of Pakistan.

PIA loses ‘sensitive’ cargo 


According to Dunya (December 10, 2015) ‘a sensitive organization’ (hassaas idara) had sent cargo from Lahore to Islamabad via the PIA, but the national airline lost it. They had not found it by December 9, despite having searched for several days.

Passenger plane evades aerial firing in Peshawar 


Express reports (December 10, 2015) a private airline flight narrowly avoided an accident (baal baal bach gayee) at the Peshawar airport after a sudden gunfire began when it was about to land. The pilot changed the direction of the plane. Celebratory gunfire is a common phenomenon in the area and airlines have been told not to operate at night.

Fake exorcist robs clients 


Reported in Nawa-e-Waqt (December 9, 2015) a fake exorcist – who also lied about being a gunman of the prime minister’s daughter – robbed a family in Gujranwala when they invited him to heal their 10-year-old deaf son. When they drank milk that he said he had cast a spell on, the eight members of the household fell unconscious, and he ran away with everything in the house.

Bitter election loser shaves voter’s head 


An unsuccessful local council election candidate in a village near Lahore shaved a voter’s head and mustache because he did not vote for him, reports Nawa-e-Waqt (December 11, 2015). The candidate and his friends also tortured the man.

Flight cancelation shatters bridegroom’s dreams


Reported in Nai Baat (December 12, 2015) a would-be bridegroom and his family staged a protest at Lahore airport after a canceled flight shattered his dreams (armaano ka khoon) of getting married in Karachi.
