Police deliberately refrained from PTI chairman Imran Khan arrest during its raid at his Zaman Park residence a day earlier, says reporter Ali Afzal Sayal.
Police and protesters engaged in intense daylong clashes on Tuesday amid apparent attempts to take the former premier into custody.
The reporter told Khabar Say Aagay host Raza Rumi that there was no actual effort yesterday by the LEA at any point, rather it seems that they successfully executed a 26-hour drama of the Imran Khan arrest.
"The personnel did not use batons, nor did they actually arrest anyone; all they did was they took them away in their vehicles and freed them a few kilometres away," he added.
The reporter went on to say that police did fire teargas shells but it retreated every time, giving enough time to the workers to regroup for a fresh push.
Sayal added that Imran's house didn't come under attack, and a few of the teargas shells landed inside.
'But the petrol bomb that caused a water canon to catch fire was fired from the roof of his residence', he maintained.
To a question, he said that there are no parallels between Tuesday's action and the offensive launched against the TLP in 2021 where police 'took care' of every protester that they were able to get hold of.
Earlier today, Lahore High Court ordered police and Rangers to pause the operation at Zaman Park till 10 AM tomorrow (Thursday).
While hearing the plea, LHC Judge Justice Tariq Saleem Sheikh ordered that the operation be stopped until tomorrow at 10 AM. Till then, the verdict by IHC would be announced regarding the plea seeking cancellation of the arrest warrant issued against Imran Khan, the judge remarked.
The PTI had approached the LHC against the police operation, contending that the ‘lives of innocent people were being jeopardised.’
After the Police and Rangers stepped back following the LHC orders, jubilation surfaced at Zaman Park, where PTI workers chanted slogans in favor of their leader and the party.
