The federal government on Wednesday formed a three-member commission to ensure the implementation of the Supreme Court's verdict in the Faizabad protest case and to affix responsibility.
In the notification issued on Wednesday, the federal government has appointed Inspector General of Police (retired) Akhtar Ali Shah as the head of the commission. Other commission members include former IGP Tahir Alam and Interior Ministry's Additional Secretary Khushal Khan.
The terms and conditions of the commission say that it must submit its report within two months. The commission will also probe the illegal funding sources of Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) and suggest action against those who issued statements or fatwas (religious edicts) in favour of the protest.
The commission will also determine whether any public officeholder broke the law or was used in breaking the law.
It will also suggest action against those responsible for organising the protest.
The commission will also probe cable operators who violated the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) rules to broadcast on their networks.
The commission will also probe those who spread hate on social media and suggest measures to prevent it in the future.
The terms of reference stated that the commission would also determine whether the country's security agencies and government officials were involved in the protest. It will also suggest how to tackle such protests in the future.
The court had directed the government to form a fact-finding commission in the Faizabad Dharna.
