Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has stated that the recent general elections were a farce and asked that the federal government step down and conduct new elections.
During a news conference in Multan on Wednesday, he emphasized that the constitution and constitutional institutions must take precedence and that the establishment cannot be both subordinate and ruler.
Fazlur Rehman stated that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) intends to begin a movement, while his party has already launched one against electoral rigging. We have taken a clear stance on the election results, and other parties aim to launch a movement against rigging.
The JUI president said the present government does not appear to be able to deliver because the assembly is weak and does not include the Pakistan People's Party (PPP).
He cautioned that if the nation does not stand up to injustice, it will lead to slavery. He also voiced solidarity for farmers who are being oppressed and urged responsibility from those guilty.
He questioned the government's choice to import wheat despite surplus supplies and sought responsibility for those who exploited farmers.
The JUI-F chief stated that he is willing to negotiate but would not compromise on his stance against rigging. He claimed that two PTI delegations had met him and that certain PTI members had been meeting with him off the record.
