A citizen claimed to have been manhandled by Rangers officials in Karachi for mistakenly getting in the way of the protocol of Director-General (DG) Rangers, Major General Iftikhar Hassan Chaudhary, in the site area.
The man claimed that he was getting late for work and did not see that a road had been blocked by rangers to clear the route for the DG. He said that Rangers personnel cornered him as soon as he came in the way and started slapping him. He added that when he asked them why they were hitting him, one official started abusing him.
While recalling the incident, the victim also said that 12 other people were being manhandled by the Rangers as well, including one who had his little daughter with him.
He added that upon revealing that he was a journalist and that he felt humiliated by the treatment, the officials got even angrier. One ‘senior’ official said, “do you think that just because you are a journalist, we will let you go? are you above the rest”?
He added that they took him to one side and kept him standing there for 40 minutes while continuing to humiliate and threaten him. He added that the kind of helplessness that he felt today will haunt him for the rest of his life. The man questioned whether the Rangers were in Karachi for the security of the people or to humiliate them. While recording his protest he wrote that Rangers should be sent back to where they belong.
