Outgoing Punjab Chief Minister Parvez Elahi has revealed that he has been offered PTI's presidentship by the party's chairman Imran Khan, saying he hasn't made a decision in this regard so far.
According to the PML-Q leader, office-bearers and MPAs of the party will hold consultation on the matter in their respective constituencies.
President PML-Q Chaudhry Shujaat on Monday suspended his brother Parvez Elahi’s party membership, it has emerged.
It came amid the reported disagreement between the two over Elahi’s deepening ties with PTI chairman Imran Khan.
Besides suspension of party membership, he was also issued a show-cause notice to explain his position on the matter.
The dispute between the two had been brewing for some time, with a recent development proving to be the last straw on the camel’s back.
Elahi was recently reported to have endorsed his son Moonis Elahi’s stance on joining the PTI, saying that Moonis, too, wants the PML-Q to merge with the ex-premier’s party.
The PTI chairman had earlier expressed interest in the two parties joining forces for common goals. He had proposed the idea during a meeting with journalists at his Zaman Town residence on Jan 14.
Earlier this month, Imran was reported to have directed his party to ‘keep an eye on Parvez Elahi’, saying the Punjab CM ‘could do anything for his political gains’.
In a meeting with the top party leadership, the ex-premier had advised them to not have ‘blind faith’ in the PML-Q leader.
On Jan 11, Elahi won the vote of confidence of Punjab Assembly to retain his post as the province’s chief minister.
The vote was taken amid a boycott of the session by the opposition and a ruckus in the House, as both sides engaged in an intense war of words.
The opposition cast doubts on the transparency of the voting process and announced to approach court against the same.
