Shah Mehmood Qureshi To Be Released From Prison After Eid, Hopes Son Zain

Zain Qureshi, the son of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) senior leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi, said Monday that he expects his father would be released from prison after Eid ul Adha.

Qureshi, a former foreign minister and close associate of PTI founder Imran Khan, was detained in August of last year in connection with the cipher case. He was given bail many months later, only to be arrested again.

"This is my second Eid without my father. He has offered the greatest sacrifice." I'm hoping he'll be released from jail after Eid," Zain told journalists in Multan following Eid prayers.

Qureshi and Imran were acquitted in the cipher case, as well as numerous other charges involving vandalism on May 9 and the "Azadi March." They are still in jail, though, since they have been arrested on a number of other charges.

Speaking about talks with significant stakeholders, Zaid stated that the party has never refused to engage in negotiations.

However, he underlined the party's call for a probe into the February 8 general elections and the May 9 incidents.

"Our imprisoned workers should be released," he stated.

Furthermore, the PTI's deputy legislative leader in the National Assembly refuted allegations of internal party divisions.

"There is no conflict amongst PTI leaders," he said.
