Slippery slope


According to Daily Jang (01 April 2019), the PPP’s Khurshid Shah stated that it was possible that after removing the name of Benazir Bhutto from the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), the rulers might soon want to remove the Quaid-e-Azam’s image from Pakistani currency.


Zero-tolerance


Chief Minister of Punjab Usman Buzdar was quoted by Daily Dunya (01 April 2019) as saying that the outcome of the PTI government’s zero-tolerance policy towards corruption would become apparent. He noted that the current government is working day and night towards this end.

The PTI’s Shehryar Afridi, according to Daily Dunya (01 April 2019), stated that Pakistan wanted peace but if Indian PM Narendra Modi wanted to make a film, he would get a vigorous response from Pakistan.


Same old?


The PML-N’s Ahsan Iqbal, it was reported by Daily Dunya (01 April 2019), expressed his view that the PTI was a newer PML-Q whereas Imran Khan was a second Musharraf. He went on to opine that a vision is needed to improve the economy, whereas PM Imran Khan was offering the nation eggs, chickens and goats.

Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman was quoted by Daily Dunya (01 April 2019) as saying that he could lead 30 lakh (3 million) people to Islamabad so as to jam the city – and then he would see how the government could still operate.


Spared


According to Daily Jang (02 April 2019), Minster for Petroum Ghulam Sarwar Khan stated that one ought to be thankful that fuel prices had not been increased by Rs. 12. The minister went on to say that in view of the fact that the public could not have borne such a rise in price, it had only been increased by Rs. 6.


On what is yet to come...


The PPP’s Manzoor Wassan, according to Daily Jang (02 April 2019), predicted that the year 2020 would be a bad one for PM Imran Khan and his government. Wassan further stated that those who brought the PM to power would soon realize that they had made a mistake and so he would have to resign.


Accusations galore


Daily Jang (03 April 2019) informed its readers that in India, much like in Pakistan, the ruling party was liberally employing accusations of corruption against the opposition. PM Modi was quoted as saying that the Congress had been involved in corruption whether it ruled in Delhi or Arunachal Pradesh. He even alleged that the Congress had been responsible for corruption in the contracts for Dassault Rafale warplanes, but had pinned it all on him.


Throwing the gauntlet


It was reported by Daily Express (06 April 2019) that PM Imran Khan had invited PPP leaders Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Asif Ali Zardari to come to Islamabad and organize a dharna protest against his government. He further expressed his view that his government was not going anywhere, but that Asif Ali Zardari was going to jail.

Federal Railways Minister Sheikh Rasheed was quoted by Daily Express (07 April 2019) as expressing his view that that when a politician gets unlawful earnings (haram ki kamai), they become cowardly (buzdil).
