Karachi Policeman Who Killed Newlywed Remained In Uniform Despite Rap Sheet, Stints In Prison
More details have emerged regarding the seedy past of the Karachi police officer accused of murdering a newlywed man in broad daylight last week. The police officer had a rap sheet and served several stints in prison despite being in uniform.

In the final allegation against him, police constable Farzand Ali stood accused of the daytime armed robbery of a newlywed man walking with his mother and sister on Karachi's Kashmir Road on January 12.  The newlywed man was shot dead, but Farzand Ali was allegedly able to escape.

It was just the latest crime in at least nine criminal cases against him, including robbery, street crime, and drug peddling, according to Geo TV. In his 12 years of service on the force, he was issued ten show-cause notices and arrested twice.

Police claim Farzand Ali committed suicide to evade capture, shooting himself in the head Monday night as police circled in to arrest him.

However, conflicting accounts suggest that his death, as his life, was much shadier. Some media reports indicate that Farzand Ali was already in police custody well before the time of his death.  The reports also suggested that he was not found in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, as the official report states, but possibly in Suranji Town or Gulshan-e-Maymar.

“Definitely, Farzand Ali would have the support of his colleagues or seniors within the department as he seemed influential because he was serving within the department despite several criminal cases already registered against him,” a senior police officer told Geo TV.

“But all the secrets lie buried with him now, and the case is closed with his killing being termed a suicide," he said
